HOLST The Planets

With its portrayal of our solar system, Gustav Holst’s monumental orchestral suite The Planets provides an appropriate conclusion to the Bardi’s hugely successful 2024/25 New Horizons concert season. Each movement is a wonderful portrayal of each planet, from the battling themes of Mars to the celestial final echos of Neptune as the Orchestra are joined by the upper voices of Leicestershire Chorale.

The first half features Tchaikovsky’s much-loved Violin Concerto with soloist Fenella Humphreys. With its tuneful melodies and virtuosic solo, the concerto is one of the most popular works in the violin repertoire.

The fourth of this season’s guest conductors is Tom Fetherstonhaugh, Artistic Director and Founder of the Fantasia Orchestra with whom he appeared in two concerts at the 2024 BBC Proms. Assistant Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra until 2024, Tom has also led many of the country’s top orchestras and brings a wealth of experience to the De Montfort Hall podium.

A stellar season finale not to be missed!
