Lit at Lunch 2017

Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea.

Rhys’ masterpiece was published to great acclaim in 1966. As a child in the West Indies Rhys had been captivated by Bronte’s Jane Eyre and by the character of Rochester’s mad Jamaican wife. Out of that obsession comes this wonderful novel, full of the sense of a wilder, more lush world.
